The competition aims to present urban studies and sustainable solutions in the fields of architecture and urban design to develop the Al-Awali viewpoint in Riyadh. It focuses on various recreational and cultural aspects to support the strategic plan of the Riyadh region's municipality related to quality projects and enhancing the city's natural attributes. Additionally, the competition emphasizes developing activity industries in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
This competition seeks to achieve an ideal balance between artistic beauty and sustainability. The architectural ideas must reflect the uniqueness of the location and contribute to environmental preservation. The design of the viewpoint should include a thorough analysis of the site and make the most of its natural views.
The design philosophy stems from the breathtaking natural landscape of Wadi Namar, where the project aspires to be a living expression of the organic interaction between the environment and human life.
Our design originates from a deep understanding of the study area, both its natural and built surroundings, aiming to revive the memory of the place and highlight the impact of valleys on community life.
Our philosophy is based on creating a space along the valley's edge that narrates the story of human interaction with the wadi, and the harmony between architecture and nature—reflecting both sustainability and modernity. The project also aims to serve as a landmark for preserving cultural identity by embedding local heritage and values into its buildings and architectural details
The site’s terrain levels were carefully considered and divided into five distinct layers to create diverse viewing angles and scenic vistas. The different elevations were also utilized to enhance privacy, particularly in the camping area.
The astronomical and cultural observatory building was placed at the edge of the site near the valley, featuring a suspended walkway extending beyond the building along the cliff. This design allows visitors to feel as if they are floating in space. Telescopes were added to enable guests to observe the stars and explore the night sky.
